IDENTITY IN CHRIST | DAY 25
2nd Timothy 2:1-4
You, therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the commanding officer.
I am strong in Grace
We are at war. It’s spiritual but literal. It’s not some cheesy illustration, but the actual truth. In war, if you don’t fight, you die. And others die. This passage is talking to all of us who follow Jesus Christ. This GRACE that has been given us enables us to be STRONG. Now, I know a lot of you don’t feel strong. I get it, I feel that way as well. Jesus does not need you to be strong by yourself, He’s calling you to be strong IN HIM!! Through His work, through His GRACE!! Here is how we build this strength:
1.) Tell others the truth
As Christians, we have received this beautiful grace. We know the truth. Talk about it!
2.) Disciple those God is calling
As we share, we instruct. Remember yesterday? We are instructed so that we can…instruct in the ways of Jesus. This is discipleship.
3.) Share in the suffering of this battle
The church is called to help one another. Serve one another. Protect one another. Suffer for one another.
4.) Focus on your commanding officer
The only hope we have of making it is focusing on Jesus. Remember: we do this together, not by ourselves!
Questions
What is the first question you will want to ask King Jesus when you meet him in heaven?
Soldiers have died for you and me to be free in this country. What mindset do you think is needed to be able to do that?
The church is a community. What is the best part to you about being in a community?
