1st Samuel 2:12-17
Eli’s sons were wicked men; they did not respect the Lord
The high priest’s sons…did not respect the Lord
13 or the priests’ share of the sacrifices from the people. When anyone offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling 14 and plunge it into the container, kettle, cauldron, or cooking pot. The priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is the way they treated all the Israelites who came there to Shiloh.
A complete disregard for the people they had been called to serve
A complete disregard for the God that had called them
What was the proper protocol for this?
Deuteronomy 18:3 says the priests were to be given specific pieces of meat
They disregarded God’s plan and did what they wanted to do
15 Even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the one who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he won’t accept boiled meat from you—only raw.” 16 If that person said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you can take whatever you want for yourself,” the servant would reply, “No, I insist that you hand it over right now. If you don’t, I’ll take it by force!” 17 So the servants’ sin was very severe in the presence of the Lord, because the men treated the Lord’s offering with contempt.
Sin. It’s what ruins us all
It’s what separates us from God
It’s what keeps us from real happiness and joy
How we handle sin makes all of the difference
So how do we deal with Sin?
1.) What does the bible say about sin?
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
1st John 1:8
If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
All of us have sinned
All of us are sinning
This keeps us from God
If we walk in self-deception, we aren’t Christians. We may be moral, but in accordance with scripture, the TRUTH isn’t in us
2.) What does sin do, and what is its end goal?
James 1:13-15
No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God,” since God is not tempted by evil, and he himself doesn’t tempt anyone. 14 But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desire. 15 Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.
Sin does not come from God
Temptation does not come from God
Sin entices through a customized temptation made just for you to draw you away
Customized temptation grows desire
Desire BIRTHS sin
SIN, when it reaches maturity, kills you
3.) What must we do to fight it?
1st John 1:8-10
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light, and there is absolutely no darkness in him. 6 If we say, “We have fellowship with him,” and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. 7 If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say, “We have not sinned,” we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Seek light, not darkness
Stop lying. It’s a commandment
It’s being used to entice you away from TRUTH
In the light is fellowship. Find fellowship. Constant solitude is enticing you away from the TRUTH
Confess regularly. This is hard and painful, but SOO GOOD FOR YOU!!
Prove God is right. Stop calling Him a liar
